Upstart is an online lending platform; its personal loans are originated by regulated banks, and its underwriting looks at factors such as education and work history alongside credit data. That can help borrowers with a short credit history get a quote. The trade-offs are only two term lengths, 36 or 60 months, and an origination fee that can take a meaningful share of the proceeds. Minimums are higher in Georgia ($3,100), Hawaii ($1,500) and Massachusetts ($7,000), so a $1,000 need will not fit everywhere; a great meadow credit request, by contrast, starts at $500. Published terms change often, so confirm the current range in the lender's own disclosures before applying.
Best for: Thin credit files and fair credit
